Local fishmonger and restauranteur Willie Little and his team have walked away with two prizes from the Food Awards Scotland held at The Marriott Hotel in Glasgow.

Littles Restaurant, based in a stunning converted Church at Rattray, Blairgowrie, was named Best Seafood Establishment at the awards, with Willie’s other business, fishmongers Fish in Crieff, named Restaurant Supplier of the Year.

Said Willie : “We are delighted to pick up not one, but two top awards which recognise my lifelong commitment to quality fish and seafood in both these businesses. It’s been my pleasure to take my hard working team from  both businesses to this awards night. We had a superb time and it was a great networking experience.”

“These awards matter to us as it’s our customers vote that count across the board.”

Willie went on to explain that moving Littles to the former Riverside Methodist Church in Rattray had proved to be a defining moment for the business.

“Although a costly and time consuming process, it has more than paid off, as not only have we given this amazing building a fantastic new use, but we have opened up Littles to a new audience,” he said. “ We’ve benefitted from TV coverage and lots of media interest in the project, thanks also to the fact the Church has an absolutely incredible stain glass window – the only one of its type in the UK – dedicated to the role of the Labour Corps in WW1. We have saved this for the community. The Church is also a truly inspiring place in which to enjoy a meal.”

“As for Fish in Crieff, independent fishmongers are becoming more and more scarce, driven out of business by the big supermarkets,” added Willie. “It’s great that my customers, both domestic and trade, recognise our worth and want to buy my carefully sourced fish and seafood. I buy from suppliers I have used for many many years, all tried and tested.”

“I would also like to pay tribute to my staff at Fish in Crieff – they know their fish inside and out.”
