AD | Could You Mentor a Young Person in Need?
The Grandmentors Project, run by charity Volunteering Matters, supports young people (16+) across Perth and Kinross who are on their journey to independence.
They may be care experienced, or have faced other adversity, meaning that a confidential and trusted source of advice could open new avenues for them. We are looking for compassionate, patient and committed volunteers to become mentors for the young people referred to our project.
We provide a comprehensive onboarding and training process and support our mentors throughout with dedicated project staff. We also reimburse expenses for travel and costs of meeting your mentee. The mentoring itself will normally last about 12 months, although this does vary.
Our mentors are normally aged 50+ but we are flexible in this. You don't need any particular experience to be a mentor; everyone can offer life experience and advice no matter what your background.
Grandmentors is all about empowering young people through positive relationships, aligning to “The Promise” that Scotland made to its care-experienced population. Our young people are listened to, heard, and responded to. They benefit from meaningful support to boost mental & physical wellbeing, resilience, and confidence.
Grandmentors facilitate conversations around keeping well, coping strategies, self-care, and self-management. Each young person will develop goals to work on during their mentorship which can range from developing confidence, working on their employability or education, or learning how to budget, among many other things.
Please get in touch if you would like to know more or hear about the ongoing positive impact Grandmentors has across Perth and Kinross.
