Situated in the village of Meigle, The Joinery is more than a café, it’s a celebration of coffee, collaboration, creativity, and community spirit. The venture is the latest chapter for Perthshire Artisans Colin and Hannah of Alyth-based Highwood Furniture, who set out to create a space that could also showcase their own handcrafted wood work and celebrate the talent of fellow Perthshire Artisans.

When they first shared their idea with the Artisan community, the response was immediate and uplifting. Encouragement and enthusiasm poured in, reinforcing the strength of the network and the shared desire to support one another. That collective spirit now defines The Joinery, shaping it into a space where creativity is both displayed and deeply valued.

While the café continues to offer everything locals and visitors love, a warm and friendly welcome, great coffee, freshly baked cakes made from treasured recipes, and a simple menu of homemade soups, toasties, and jacket potatoes, it also offers something more.

There are handcrafted furniture pieces and a selection of kitchenware and gift items including chopping boards, bottle openers and the popular wooden spurtles made by Colin and Hannah at Highwood Furniture. Alongside, there’s a selection of work from other Perthshire Artisans, including wooden accessories by Chris Clay, keepsake boxes from Mike Cordner, ceramics from Caroline Storer, stone carvings from Neil Paterson and cards and prints from Samantha Dolan. Each item reflects a connection to the natural beauty of Perthshire and the skill of its makers.

“It’s important to us that The Joinery reflects our ethos,” says Hannah. “Grounded, comfortable and welcoming, while celebrating everything about wood and natural materials.”

The early weeks have brought a few surprises, including just how much chocolate is used daily, but the most rewarding aspect has been the support from the fabulous staff, customers, locals, and fellow Artisans. More than a café, The Joinery has become a place of connection, where people gather, discover, and support local creativity, embodying the collaborative spirit of the Perthshire Artisans community.

The Joinery is open 7 days a week, 10am to 4.30pm at The Square, Ardler Rd, Meigle, Blairgowrie, PH12 8RN. Book a lunch table on 01828 640717.
