Finding Flowers and Blossoms in Perthshire

Finding Flowers and Blossoms in Perthshire

I don’t know if it’s just me, but Perthshire’s flowers seem to be extra vibrant and abundant this year. Blossoming trees have been entirely covered by a pure white or delicate pink froth, there’s carpets of bluebells in places where I’ve only ever noticed a few, and for the first time in my life I’m envious of people who have rhododendrons. Perhaps I’m just noticing it more, but either way, it’s been a real joy. So in this article we’ve put together a few garden, park and woodland ideas where you can enjoy the flowers this month.

Kinclaven Bluebell Wood

Of course we had to start with Kinclaven, as it’s not a sight that can be enjoyed much longer this year. The bluebells are starting to fade slightly, but there’s still time to visit and enjoy them if you haven’t yet done so. We highly recommend this beautiful walk through the woods, with its blooming ocean of blue flowers, lightly scented air and soothing birdsong.

Branklyn Gardens

I cannot recommend this particular garden in June enough. So many beautiful blooms, from blowsy and flamboyant rhododendrons to the tiniest of shy little alpine flowers, there’s colour and life everywhere. Of course the biggest draw at this time of year is the gorgeous Himalayan blue poppies, or meconopsis, of which the garden hosts the National Collection.

Blair Castle Gardens

The Hercules Garden, or walled garden, in particular is lovely to visit when the flowers are in bloom and you can really enjoy the careful landscaping. There’s also a play park, tearoom and gift shop, and sculpture trail to enjoy, as well as my personal favourite, Diana’s Grove, with its magnificent trees.

Macrosty Park

If you want to see trees in blossom, Macrosty Park in Crieff is a good choice. There’s also a bandstand, play park, picnic tables and cafe to make your visit even better. The Turret Burn runs through the park and little bridges across give added interest. Leafy woodland combined with open spaces and waterside peacefulness makes for a relaxing visit.

Drummond Castle Gardens

Another favourite of ours, this garden really shines when lots of flowers are in bloom. Many of the bed layouts are coordinated into two colours, such as red and yellow or black and white, which can be really impactful. A wander around here exploring all the different nooks, each with their individual focal points, is a lovely way to spend a few hours.
