From Our Archive

Over the years we’ve been running The Perthshire Magazine, we’ve built up an extensive archive of images from all over the region, and of course we’ve seen a lot of changes in that time. It can be nice to have a nostalgic look back at some of the buildings and businesses that have come and gone and the memories attached to them. So in this article we’ve collected a few photos of places that look a bit different now…

Kenmore - before a fire destroyed the original Crannog Centre, which is now being rebuilt on the other side of the loch. Note how many boats there are as well!

Alyth - We love this photo of the Alyth Museum before it was closed in September 2025. It seems there are positive plans for its future, as it’s been taken on by the Alyth Youth Partnership.

Aberfeldy - The old golf clubhouse has now been replaced by a shiny new modern building, and quite a number of the town’s shops and cafes have changed hands over the last few years.

Fortingall - This is a sad one, as several of this charming village’s thatched cottages were severely affected by a fire last year. At least the rebuilding process is underway, however, and we hope to see it back to looking like this in the not too distant future!
